Whether you’re a new graduate, a bored bum, an employee planning to switch to a different career, or whatever you may be, surely you have heard the word about call centers.  However I’m sure you might be hesitant to enter this world, probably because of negative views you have heard, which stops you from considering the many good points about call centers and in this article, I’ve compiled some of the top reasons why you should prepare your future in working in a call center.

Reason #1: Fulfilment - Many jobs are very boring.  Most of the time you will do the same boring thing over and over, every single day.  You might be assigned to do typing tasks or accounting computations, or you may be in a factory production line, placing products into containers (8 hours a day, 5 days a week).  Boring.  Of course, when you work at a call center, you would be assigned to tasks that are repetitive.  You will be asked to type and talk to different people every day.  However, each call you receive is never the same.  What’s so fulfilling about is (unlike ordinary jobs), you are helping a lot of people who are calling you to ask for your assistance.  A noble task of resolving problems that make peoples’ lives better.  At the end of the day, you’ll surely walk home satisfied and may not help smiling because of the good things you’ve done for others.

Reason #2: Easy Labor - Most jobs will require you to dedicate not just your mind and soul for work but your body as well.  Take for example a sales lady in a department store.  She’s required to think of ways to persuade customers to buy merchandise she has been assigned to, constantly pressured by sales targets, exert much effort and looking presentable by wearing her uniform properly constantly and having to wear makeup the whole time and fake a smile all day to appear as the friendliest person.  But that’s not all - she has to run if not, walk back and forth for customer requests, carry various heavy objects, and stand up most of the time for her entire shift.  Now that’s hard.  But in a call center, your day starts by first walking to your air-conditioned workstation, sit down on a comfortable office chair, use your computer to work which makes your job a whole lot easier and converse with your clients in a most enthusiastic manner over the phone and wait for time to pass before you go on break and finally log out.  Now that’s easy.

Reason #3: Career – A lot of people don’t realize it but there are actually a lot of career opportunities in call centers.  Many career paths are available to those who simply decide to grab it.  You may choose to pursue a career in production - working from being a call center agent to being a team leader, manager and eventually, towards being account call center manager.  You may also work your way up outside production and part of being the support staff.  Some areas included in support that you may enter eventually are training, H.R., recruitment, I.T., workforce and many others.  With dedication to your chosen career path, you may successfully climb your way towards success. 

Reason #4: Faster Promotion – As compared to most careers, where somewhere in a higher job position either retire, resign or sadly leave for the afterlife in order for promotion to be possible, career advancements in call center are faster are compared to the usual career.  Of course, not because people in higher job position leave for the afterlife much sooner at call centers, but because of the impressive growth this industry is experiencing here in the Philippines.  As you may be familiar with, the Philippines is a top choice for outsourcing , because of relatively lower labor costs companies enjoy and an impressive pool of quality employees who are well educated, and very customer-service oriented.  This allows the opening of new call centers or new accounts being created within existing call centers.  Generating more jobs, and of course making higher job positions available.  The forecast for the country is that a lot more employees in call centers are going to be required, so might as well grab this opportunity as soon as possible.

Reason #5:  Benefits – A business’ existence is dependent on the income it generates for call centers. Usually the income is derived from the calls it receives.  Therefore, to maximize received calls and create more income, call centers must take care of people who take these calls.  Call center employees thus are well-taken cared of through medical and other benefits, to keep them healthy and happy.  Of course, that employee eventually will be you.  

Now benefits range from those mandated by law like S.S.S., Pag-ibig and PhilHealth, to medical benefits providing employees pre-dental care, accident and medical procedure coverage, home-ownership loan, programs and other benefits various call centers provide.  In most cases, these benefits are far more than what standard jobs offer.  

Reason #6: Money – I personally do not know of any call center that pays its employees the minimum wage. In a way call centers compete with each other to attract the best workers out there, to increase their capacity to take in more calls.  That is why, when you work in a call center, expect to receive an above-average salary. In my experience, I earned more than twice as much when I worked as a call center agent as compared to what I was earning as a professional.  Imagine that and I wasn’t even promoted yet.  Working in a call center allows you to take home more money in a shorter amount of time, as compared to regular even professional jobs.  Giving you a chance to do a much more in life. Either in saving for a future, supporting your family, sourcing out more for your business venture, or just simply buying gadgets or shopping, for items that you have always desired, in an easier, more exciting manner.  

In conclusion, there are a lot of reasons why you should work in a call center.  Primarily because of the salary and benefits that you receive in an easy, more fulfilling manner.  Remember, your hard work and dedication will certainly allow you to achieve your dream.  And working in a call center gives you to arrive at your target destination sooner in a much more exciting manner.
